Police: Suspect in Ossining deadly stabbing remains on the run

OSSINING -
The suspect in a deadly stabbing in Ossining remains on the run today and police are asking for the public’s help.

Meanwhile, family and friends continue to mourn Gregory Jackson Jr., 21, who was stabbed in the chest with a steak knife in broad daylight on Jan. 28.
Authorities say the attack on Jackson on James Street stemmed from a dispute, possibly from someone he knew. They say there are security cameras in the area, and while they not saying whether the knife was found, they do say significant physical evidence has been recovered.

Ossining Police Chief Kevin Sylvester says they have identified a person of interest but it's possible that person may have fled the state.

Sylvester says his team is still looking for witnesses and are urging people to come forward and help with the investigation. "We want people to be safe, this is a neighborhood where children grow up, things like this cannot happen in our community," says Sylvester.

Sylvester says he knew the victim, calling him a great kid with a great sense of humor.

No arrests have been made, and police are asking anyone with any information to give them a call at 914-941-4099.

The killing is the village's first homicide since 2015.

A funeral for Jackson, a graduate of Ossining High School, is scheduled for Friday. His sister set up a GoFundMe page and it has already exceeded its $12,000 goal.
