United Way unveils new text message service
Posted: Updated:It’s is now easier for Hudson Valley residents to get domestic, health or disaster-related support from the United Way.
The United Way of Westchester and Putnam unveiled a new text message service today, as part of its 211 call center.
People seeking assistance with various services can now text 8-9-8-2-1-1.
That will immediately connect them with a call center representative at the non-profit’s White Plains office.
United Way officials say the new text message feature is aimed at a younger audience, as well as for use in emergencies. “We wanted people to be able to reach us in different ways as well. More and more people are using their fingers instead of their phone to talk,” says United Way of Westchester President/CEO Alana Sweeny.
Right now the new text message feature is available Monday through Friday 2 p.m.-6 p.m.
