Poll finds New Jersey split on Gov. Murphy performance
Are New Jersey residents happy with the way Gov. Phil Murphy is governing the Garden State?
A new poll by Monmouth University found that New Jerseyans seem to be split on the issue.
According to the poll, 43 percent of New Jersey’s adults approve of the job Murphy is doing as governor and 40 percent disapprove. The poll also found that 17 percent of New Jersey residents have no opinion of the governor.
“Voters have become more aware of what the Murphy administration is,” says Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
But the Democratic governor says that he isn’t concerned about poll results.
“We don’t run a government based on polling,” Murphy said. “To build a stronger and fair New Jersey that works for everybody. That’s the job we’re going to do regardless of what the polling says.”
The survey also revealed some of New Jersey residents’ biggest concerns about the state. Property taxes were the top concern. About 25 percent in the poll also cited other types of taxes as concerns. The economy and cost of living also ranked high in the poll.
“Is the Murphy administration focused on these issues? That I think is casting doubt in many New Jersey residents’ minds,” says Murray.
The poll was conducted by phone from Feb. 8 through Feb. 10 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
