Renovations halt 2 and 5 train service at Winthrop Street station
The MTA says subway riders on the 2 and 5 lines will not be able to catch the train at the Winthrop Street stop for quite some time.
The city says renovations are shutting down the station for at least four months.
Starting Monday, commuters will not be able to catch trains at this stop heading to Flatbush Avenue.
In a November committing meeting, the MTA revealed that multiple stations would receive stair replacements in the upcoming months, including the Winthrop stop on the Nostrand Avenue line. The stairs have since been boarded up.
Beginning at 5 a.m. Monday there will be no 2 or 5 trains at the station heading towards Flatbush Avenue. Officials say service will hopefully resume in July.
The MTA suggests getting off at the nearby Church Avenue station or the b44 bus as alternatives while the stop is under construction.
Meanwhile, the station remains the closest train hub for those commuting to and from NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County as well as SUNY Downstate Medical Center and local schools M.S. 2 and P.S. 92.
