Police respond to possibly fatal barricaded person situation
Police are remaining tight-lipped about a massive police presence in Middletown Tuesday night.
Authorities responded to a call just before 7:30 p.m. at Cottage Street that one or two people were possibly dead inside an apartment. When police tried to make entry into the apartment, they found a person inside who would not allow anyone in.
Middletown police said they were treating it as a barricaded person situation. They said the person would not leave or let anyone inside.
Police said they had a negotiation team on site trying to make contact with that person.
Occupants in the building were evacuated. Some people who live in the building said they think someone was dead in the apartment.
"Yeah it's sad, because the guy, he looks like he's out of it ... he said he's on a lot of medication or something, and he was just sitting there," said one building resident.
"As of this time, we do not have a tremendous amount of details, we are taking all precautions we can to ensure the safety of the people within the apartment, as well as all the neighbors and surrounding people," said Middletown Police Chief John Ewanciw.
Police were still investigating as of late Tuesday night.
