Officials: 5 people injured, 1 critically in Valley Cottage fire

VALLEY COTTAGE -

One person is in critical condition and four others were injured following a fire in Valley Cottage, according to Clarkstown police.

Fire crews arrived to the scene on Sierra Vista Lane to see flames burning through the roof of a house.

Neighbors smelled the smoke and came rushing outside.

"I have never seen a fire this big in my entire life ever," said Andulkhader Mured. "It definitely shakes up your needs and everything."

A total of 11 firefighting units and three ambulance crews responded to the fire.

The victims were taken to Westchester Medical Center.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

A spokesperson for the Red Cross says they assisting two families.
