Firehouses across Long Island and New York will open their doors to the public this weekend to help increase membership in the volunteer fire service.
Officials say member enrollment is way down in most firehouses across the state and Long Island.
This weekend, potential volunteers will have the opportunity to speak with active volunteers and participate in typical fire service activities. It also enables citizens to better understand the role the local fire department plays in protecting their community.
News 12 Long Island's Erin Colton was live in Old Bethpage with details on how to join some very brave men and women.
