Report suggests New Rochelle HS is in need of a school resource officer

More than a year after the death of a New Rochelle High School student, a new report shows the school is in need of armed school resource officers.
Parents gathered at the school Tuesday to hear more on the report by Altaris Consulting Group, which provides insight on ways to improve safety on campus.

Some parents say they wonder if the school district has done enough to ensure students are safe. Others say they are not sure if armed officers are the right answer.

Although the district has already made some of the changes, one measure to add armed school resource officers to campus has not been done.

The report also recommends reviewing policies and procedures, which are inconsistent across the district, adding concrete barriers, upgrading PA systems and adding a lockdown panic system.

Parents News 12 spoke to say it's time the district stops debating and takes action.

The district's Culture and Climate Committee will review the full report and make their recommendations to the board before a board vote in July.
