Over 4,000 people have signed a petition calling on Westchester officials to be more transparent about the future of Rye Playland.
Steve Vasko of Rye created the online petition a few weeks ago. He says people are concerned about the future of the amusement park after the 30-year deal with Standard Amusements was torn up.
County Executive George Latimer says taxpayers would not save money if they had gone ahead with the Standard Amusements deal.
"Playland loses money every single year and this contract would have changed that," says Vasko. "It would have provided over a quarter million dollars in rental revenue each year, $2.5 million upfront and a $30 million investment to fix what's wrong with the park."
Vasko says they specifically want Latimer to schedule public meetings where they can hear more about the county's plans for Playland.
"It hasn't had new rides in over 10 years, there's issues with the food stands - half of them are closed," says Vasko."It needs a lot of work and a lot of investment."
Latimer says that when the season ends, they'll move forward with essential projects to improve the park.
According to an ad on Facebook, Standard Amusements paid to have the petition shared.
