County executive endorses candidate for Mount Vernon mayor

MOUNT VERNON -

Westchester County Executive George Latimer is making his stance known in the race for mayor in Mount Vernon.

Latimer stepped into the fray of the Mount Vernon mayoral primary Monday by endorsing Democratic nominee Clyde Isley.

Latimer, who grew up in Mount Vernon, has largely stayed out of the political chaos that has unfolded in the city in recent months. But he has made it clear, in subtle ways, that he has some issues with current Mayor Richard Thomas - particularly about Memorial Field and its future.

Clyde Isley, a former police commissioner, is one of four candidates running in the primary election. His challengers included incumbent Mayor Richard Thomas, City Council President Andre Wallace and former Planning Commissioner Shawyn Patterson Howard.

The primary will be held on June 25.
