Port Jervis firefighter identified as man struck in fatal ambulance accident

An Orange County firefighter has been identified as the man killed in an ambulance accident over the weekend in Port Jervis.
Port Jervis firefighter Nicholas McKeon was struck and killed by the same rescuers he worked alongside at the Delaware Engine Co.  2.
Authorities say it appears McKeon was sleeping outside of a bay door around 6 a.m. Sunday when the ambulance pulled out for a call and accidentally hit the firefighter, not realizing he was there.
So far, it's not clear why McKeon may have been asleep outside of the Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which is several blocks away from the firehouse.
Fire officials say firefighters responded to several fire calls on Saturday but none overnight, and they didn't know for sure whether McKeon may have attended them.
McKeon comes from a long line of firefighters, with both his father and grandfather having served there.
