New City woman identified as drunk driving crash victim

NEW CITY -

The woman who was killed in a crash involving a drunk driver early Sunday morning has been identified as Jayde Marks, 21, of New City, according to Clarkstown police.

Officers say Michael Mercado, 22, of West Haverstraw, was drunk when he ran a red light around 1 a.m. on Route 304 and Germonds Road in New City and hit Marks's car.

Marks was transported to Nyack Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Mercado was taken to Westchester Medical Center for a non-life-threatening injury that may require surgery. He is being charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI.
