Route 202 in Haverstraw reopens after water main break

HAVERSTRAW -

A section of busy road in Rockland County has reopened after a water main break overnight.

Police say Route 202 in Haverstraw was closed between Crystal Hill Drive to Wood-ridge Drive since the break in a six-inch main Monday evening in front of the Haverstraw Fire Department.

A volunteer firefighter tells News 12 they were doing drills about 8-8:30 p.m. Monday night. When they opened the fire hydrant out in front of the fire station to just a trickle, he said that's when the whole firehouse shook and water began gushing out of the ground.

They took a good bit of water inside the firehouse but only the firehouse had a problem with water service and no homes were affected.

Crews working on the pipe say they should be done this afternoon.
