Nassau lawmakers approve $60M plan to convert sewage plant

Posted: Updated:
NASSAU COUNTY -

Nassau County lawmakers approved a $60 million plan to re-direct Long Beach sewage to a Nassau County facility.

The move is aimed at stopping the flow of pollution into the Reynolds Channel and Nassau's western bays.

Under the plan, Long Beach sewage will be transferred to the county's Bay Park water treatment facility.

Those who live along the channel say it will impact their lives for the better.

"This vote will improve the quality of our residents, as there's no odor control in our waste water treatment plant, and we all know that when the wind blows, that stench is terrible,” says Scott Bochner, a local environmentalist, co-founder of the Sludge Stoppers Task Force and member of the Long Beach Environmental Advisory Board.
