Court date postponed for Mount Vernon police appointee

MOUNT VERNON -

The court date for the recently sworn in police commissioner of Mount Vernon has been postponed.

Shawn Harris was arrested on Tuesday for felony trespassing while trying to enter police headquarters. Harris was reappointed by acting Mayor Andre Wallace after being fired by Mayor Richard Thomas earlier this year.

Harris was reportedly given a desk appearance ticket to appear today. However, Jeffrey Chartier, Harris’ attorney, advised him not to show up because there are no actual charges at this point to pursue.

Chartier says when the DA opted not to filed charges, that made the case essentially moot. He says he is now working with the DA to clear the police desk ticket that Harris was issued.

The episode highlights the now two-week saga over who has control of City Hall - Thomas or Wallace?
