Former Girl Scout troop leader sentenced for sexual abuse

VALHALLA -

A male Girl Scouts troop leader will not face jail despite pleading guilty to sexual abuse, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.

A judge sentenced Albert Orjuela, 43, of Valhalla, to six years’ probation, six years order of protection, and he must register as a sex offender. Orjuela was arrested in January and pleaded guilty in April. The sentencing on the charges will run concurrently.

Today in court, the prosecutor read a statement from the two victims, and the judge heard from one the girls’ mothers. News 212 learned that Orjuela inappropriately touch a 14-year-old girl on her private parts and molested another girl while she slept.

Orjuela was one of two troop leaders for Valhalla Girl Scouts.

In a statement, Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson CEO Marie Reger said that they were made aware of the allegation about Orjuela on Jan. 15, and immediately suspended him from his position as a volunteer troop leader and referred the matter to the Mount Pleasant police.
