MOUNT VERNON -

Hours after former Mayor Richard Thomas conceded his challenge in the Mount Vernon Democratic mayoral primary, Westchester County Democratic leadership gathered to endorse the victor.

Thomas conceded to the Democratic Primary winner Shawyn Patterson-Howard on Twitter Saturday.

"I will withdraw the primary challenge in the best interest of moving the city forward and support Dem nominee Shawyn Patterson-Howard," Thomas said in the tweet.

Patterson-Howard accepted endorsements Saturday from members of Westchester County's Democratic leadership.

"We're focusing on Nov. 5. We have a real campaign to run and I'm confident that on Jan. 1, 2020, Mount Vernon will have one mayor. I look forward to being that person," Patterson-Howard said.

Patterson-Howard is running against acting Mayor Andre Wallace, a Republican, and Rosemarie Jarosz, on the Conservative line.
