Yonkers family who lost son to gun violence applauds buyback program law

A Yonkers family that knows the pain of gun violence was part of the push to get a law passed that establishes statewide regulations for gun buyback programs.
After losing their son, Michael Nolan, to gun violence, Donna and Jimmy have channeled their grief into pushing for tougher gun laws in New York.
Nolan, a Saunders High School graduate, was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in 2015. The gun used was never found. Nolan was a baseball player who was drafted by the Oakland Athletics.
On Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill into law to create a statewide gun buyback program to take illegal guns off the streets. The Yonkers couple has long supported the legislation.
The buyback program is one of several new laws in New York that Donna and Jimmy hope make a difference.
"We could have all the gun laws we want, and New York has the strictest, but unless we are going to follow through with them and see them through, they are just pieces of paper the governor signed," says Donna Nolan.
