Police help children to read at Yonkers libraryPosted: Updated:
Children are learning to read with the help of police at a Yonkers library.
For six weeks, kids can work with volunteers at the Yonkers Riverfront Library on summer reading projects and STEM activities.
Parents are welcome to join in on the fun and attend workshops to enhance their children's literacy skills.
The officers are also teaching families crime prevention in English and Spanish. "It's really a good way with reading being such a fundamental aspect of children's lives, it's a good way for myself, amongst other officers and volunteers, to interact with the community and help in any way we can," says Officer Robert Metz.
Children can come to the library twice a week to read with the officers.
The program is also available at the Ossining library.
