The City of Mount Vernon officially has its new mayor on Friday.
A state Supreme Court judge named Andre Wallace the Mount Vernon mayor until the end of the year Thursday.
The ruling came after five weeks of disputes with other candidates.
When former Mayor Richard Thomas took a plea deal in his campaign finance case, the judge said that he vacated his position. The city council then named council president Wallace as acting mayor.
Soon after, the council says they became frustrated over decisions made by Wallace without consulting them. The council then voted to remove Wallace and replace him with new council president Lisa Copeland.
Wallace refused to step down, and a judge agreed with his actions in court. It was decided that Wallace will serve as Mount Vernon's mayor for the remainder of the year.
In November, voters will get to decide who will become mayor in the general election.
Shawn Patterson Howard recently won the Democratic primary for mayor. She beat out acting mayor Andre Wallace, who says he will run against her on the Republican ticket.
