Children to learn multiple sports in U.S. Open’s Kid Zone

The U.S. Open is underway now in Queens, but the event isn’t just about the tennis, or just for adults.
Throughout this year’s Open, young fans who need a break from the on-court action can check out the Net Generation Kids Zone, where it's about more than just that tennis.

The kids zone feature sports like golf, basketball, hockey, soccer and of course tennis.
Part of the USTA’s goal is to expose children to as many sports as possible.

"You don't want them to specialize or focus on just one, you want them to get a balanced approach, which helps with their social skills, helps with their physical skills, and then yes, as they progress and they pick a sport, hopefully, tennis, they start to specialize later on," says Brendan McIntyre, Senior Director of Communications for USTA.

For many of the children, it was their first time trying a particular sport.

For other youngsters their favorite experiences were a little more simple, telling News 12 they had fun with their friends.
