A judge ordered the suspect in a brutal attack and rape in East Atlantic Beach held without bail on Saturday.
Authorities say 23-year-old Adan Alvarez, who is homeless, is facing a slew of charges in connection the to rape and beating of a woman earlier this week.
Police say Alvarez contacted the 31-year-old victim using a classified ad website called Locanto. He allegedly lured her to a vacant rental property on Oswego Avenue for a date.
But when the woman tried to leave, police say Alvarez attacked and beat her, knocking her unconscious.
"When she regains consciousness, she determines she's been assaulted, she feels the pain of being assaulted, her hands were bound and she believes she's been sexually assaulted as well," says Nassau Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Smith.
The victim suffered a fractured skull, broken nose and other cuts and bruises.
The attack sparked an intensive, dayslong manhunt for the suspect. Police say Alvarez was spotted on Friday hiding in the shed of a home on Mohawk Avenue -- just one block from where the assault allegedly happened.
Neighbors in the community were glad to hear that a suspect in the case has been arrested.
Alvarez is facing a long list of charges, including rape, kidnapping, assault, burglary and strangulation. He was ordered held without bail Saturday, and could face 25 years behind bars if convicted.
