Amy Hernandez says her son Raymond was a 25-week preemie who weighed just 2 pounds when he was born.
After treatment in the newborn intensive care unit, Raymond was transferred to Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, where he underwent intense therapy. “It was a big stress reliever for us to watch him grow at that point, coming here was therapy and helping him grow to where he needed to be to come home,” says Amy Hernandez.
Five months later, he went home for the first time after nearly doubling his weight. “They are taught to socialize, they become healthy, they're fed and a lot of times through our parent education courses that we teach here, parents are taught how to care for their child,” says Chief Development Officer Robert Lane.
The upcoming annual "Dine Out" fundraiser on Tuesday, Oct. 22 helps the hospital raise critical funds for the "Tiny Miracles" program, which is the neonatal unit.
