Dutchess County legislator under fire for Facebook post degrading women

Posted: Updated:

A Dutchess County legislator is under fire for a controversial Facebook post he made years ago.

In some posts, Legislator Giancarlo Llaverias makes sexual comments about women. In one case, he refers to having intercourse with a woman in front of someone. In another, he says he quoted an author who said "It's not rape, it's surprise sex."

Llaverias told News 12 that he's a changed man. His opponent for re-election next month, Margaret Kakish, says he should have never even made the comments.

A number of the posts were written when Llaverias was training to become a youth minister -- a mentor for children.

Kakish is calling for Llaverias to drop out his re-election bid, but Llaverias says he is staying in the race.
