A Bronx family says their loved one shouldn't be dead after undergoing what they say was a simple procedure.
Rosemary Abreu's family says she went into NYC Health + Hospitals/ Lincoln for a cyst removal on her leg but ended up losing her life the following day.
Abreu's family says she ended up going into cardiac arrest during the procedure. They believe it was because of how the anesthesia was administered.
Rosemary Abreu was 27 years old. The family says they have filed a notice of claim against NYC Health + Hospitals Corporation for $50 million in damages on Friday.
News 12 spoke with Abreu's mother, family and attorney Sanford Rubenstein, who say Abreu was a healthy mom of two.
A spokesperson for Lincoln told News 12, "This incident is deeply unfortunate, and we offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones. Patient privacy and confidentiality laws prevent us from commenting further on this case. As with any adverse event, we will vigorously investigate the matter and review our practices as necessary."
Abreu's mother says they're trying to mourn but also trying to get answers about how it all happened. They are also supporting Rosemary's two children during this difficult time.
