More than 30,000 bottles of Johnson & Johnson baby powder are being recalled after asbestos was found in one bottle.

Johnson & Johnson said the Food and Drug Administration found a small amount of asbestos in a bottle that was purchased online during routine testing.

Johnson & Johnson was notified Thursday and says it's now voluntarily recalling the lot of 33,000 bottles distributed last year, "out of an abundance of caution."

 
Dr. Jacqueline Moline, of The Feinstein Institutes at Northwell Health, recently published research identifying cosmetic talcum powder contaminated with asbestos as a root cause of mesothelioma – a rare cancer linked to inhaling asbestos fibers.

Johnson & Johnson has denied previous allegations the iconic powder contained asbestos. This comes as the company has been fighting thousands of lawsuits over its baby powder.

Johnson & Johnson says it's investigating the situation and at this point can't confirm if the bottle that was tested had an intact seal, if cross-contamination occurred or if the product that was tested was authentic or counterfeit.
