The cause of death is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected. “We are grieving this loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to Cadet Kurita’s family and friends,” Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams, U.S. Military Academy Superintendent , said in a statement.
Kurita was reported missing on Friday after he failed to report for a scheduled military skills competition. Authorities focused their search on the West Point area because they say he had not used his cellphone or had any financial activity. Kurita’s rifle was also missing, but West Point officials do not believe the cadet had any magazines.
Officials tell News 12 that 130 soldiers were brought in from a military base upstate to help with ground searches as well.
