Indictment: Family members stole more than $1.4 million from widow

Five family members, as well as another person, stole more than $1.4 million from a widow who was under the family’s care, according to an indictment handed up Thursday by a Monmouth County grand jury.
Authorities say the victim’s 90-year-old sister and the sister's son assumed power of attorney for the victim after her husband died back in November 2012.
Authorities say that came about due to the victim’s diminished mental capacities.
The scheme was operated from September 2013 to July 2017, but further details about it were not disclosed.
Each defendant faces three counts of theft and single counts of conspiracy to commit theft.
