Empire City Casino racetrack closed after NJ man dies from coronavirus

The racetrack at Empire City Casino is closed after a New Jersey man died from the coronavirus.
This is the first New Jersey death.

The New Jersey man who died was an employee of the Standardbred Owners Association based in Yonkers.

The Harness Racing Update Facebook page claims there are concerns others at the track may have contracted the virus, including the SOA's own president, who is currently home sick with an undiagnosed illness.

According to Harness Racing Update, the 69-year-old victim was at the track every night and could have exposed many people.
The head of the SOA asked MGM to take extreme measures and sanitize everything.
In a statement, the casino confirms the last time this employee was on the property was eight days ago.

In addition to closing the racetrack Tuesday, the casino is asking all employees who worked in the immediate area to self-quarantine.
