Businesses that remain open during the coronavirus pandemic are practicing social distancing to keep customers and employees safe.
DeCiccos and Sons in Pelham is only allowing a certain amount of customers in the store at a given time.
Before workers get into the store, they are given gloves to make sure customers feel protected inside the store. Customers waiting to shop outside are also offered plastic gloves for their protection.
A plexiglass barrier was also added to protect cashiers from the customers. The store has also eliminated the hot food bar and called for stricter cleaning protocols.
Owner John DeCicco Jr. says he wants his cashiers and customers to feel safe.
"We have 1,200 employees across Westchester County," DeCicco Jr. says. "Protecting them is my first priority and I want to make sure all of our employees are protected."
Customers say they are satisfied with the store's handling of the situation.
"You kind of have to do it," says Harry Breheny of Mount Vernon, "Just be a member of society, you don't want to catch anything or spread anything. I have no problem with it."
The store has a sign outside encouraging customers to stay 6 feet apart.
