As hundreds of weddings across New Jersey get canceled or postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, a Westfield couple decided on a quick and spontaneous solution that resulted in a story that they will no doubt tell their future grandchildren.
Aaron Ploshnick and Ashley Gross have been planning their wedding for two years. It was supposed to occur on April 4 with 250 guests. But the global virus outbreak changed those plans. The couple says that on Monday morning, they woke up and decided to get married that very day.

“We decided we were going to make lemonade out of the situation – 8:30 a.m. we decided we were going to get married today,” Ploshnick says.
They had the license. Rabbi Dennis Craig Tobin was available. Their parents, siblings and a few close friends were able to attend. Everything they needed was there to start a life together.
As Ploshnick put it at the start of his vows, “Ashley, sometimes things just happen,” which is a crucial lesson anyone should learn in marriage and in life.
“It's not about the perfect wedding. It's not about the perfect dress, I'm not wearing my big gown right now. It's about marrying the one you love,” says Gross. “We’ve been waiting for 2 ½ years to actually finally do this and now it feels silly that we waited so long, because we made it happen.”
The wedding took place before President Donald Trump and Gov. Phil Murphy put restrictions into place to limit crowds of 50 or more from gathering. The couple will have a larger wedding reception in September.
