Out-of-state firm demands mortgage payment despite NY order

"They don't have to follow the New York state guidelines or laws and we have to pay,” explained homeowner Kristopher Thurston.
Thurston, like many New Yorkers out of work in the coronavirus pandemic, is expecting the mortgage relief promised by the state.
He says his family of five has begun using their savings to survive and aren’t confident in how long it’ll serve them.
News 12 attempted to reach out to Caliber Home Loans but was unsuccessful in getting through.
A representative from the state Department of Financial Services says any bank issuing a loan in New York should follow the executive order.
Mortgage holders with lenders who are not complying should contact DFS to file a complaint.
