Combat veterans hit the road for a rolling tribute to fallen heroes.

Combat veteran Vincent Maher, organized Sunday's 'Boots And Blue' motorcade event after honorary events in Washington, D.C. were canceled.
"Today we are doing 270 miles, the miles represent a certain significance...it's the distance from West Point to Washington, D.C.," says Maher. "We're coming out here to represent the memories of those individuals. We ride for them because they're not here to ride themselves, and in their memory, we want to make sure they're not forgotten."

Veterans came from as far as Indiana to honor those who laid down their lives for our freedom. Robert Santiago served 27 years in combat and says the event was an important symbol.

"It just means the brotherhood, the unity of all my fellow veterans, and to remember those we lost in the past," he says.
Bike riders tell News 12 they're happy for the good weather and happier to ride for a good cause. While the bike ride was free, funds raised will be donated to the NYPD Detective Endowments Association.
