Student Adam Derveshaj says Mahopac students are not solely to blame. (3/6/14)

MAHOPAC - Some Mahopac High School students say they are not solely to blame in the racial Twitter post scandal involving Mount Vernon.

"I was at the game and I can assure you, we weren't the only people talking bad to each other," says Adam Derveshaj. "Mount Vernon had a horrible crowd. They were cursing and screaming and everything."

Derveshaj says it bothers him that people are now calling everyone in Mahopac and the high school racists, when in reality, he says very few students are responsible for writing those tweets.

Student Michael Celestino says he was shocked that something as trivial as a basketball game could stir up such hostility from everyone in the stands. He says he's hoping cooler heads will prevail and students from both schools can learn some lessons to move on from this unfortunate incident.
