SUFFERN - Neighbors in Suffern are in mourning as they learn about the death of William Valenti, who was allegedly murdered by his niece Nickie Hunt-Cirelli and her boyfriend Gary Crockett.

Valenti, 70, was a well-known businessman who ran a catering business in the town of Ramapo. Many describe him as a hardworking, kind and gentle human being.

Residents were shocked when they heard that Hunt-Cirelli and Crockett allegedly killed Valenti at the home they shared with him on Washington Ave., then plunged to their deaths from the George Washington Bridge Monday. Police say the motive stems from Valenti threatening to call police after learning the couple was stealing money from him.

One customer says Valenti practically raised Hunt-Cirelli, and that she lived with her uncle for many years.

Police say this is the first murder in Suffern in a decade. Neighbors say crimes like this don't happen in their area.
