Protesters gathered in opposition to a “drag queen story hour” event that took place in the Village of Montgomery.
The sold-out event featured drag performer Cookie Doe reading aloud to kids at the Montgomery Book Exchange Children's Chapter.
Uniformed police officers stood as a barrier between protesters and counter protesters hundreds of feet away from the building’s entrance. Those in opposition to the event held signs bearing statements such as “Defend Children’s Innocence” while supporters held signs with messages like “Love Thy Queer Neighbor.”
Supporters of the event outnumbered the protesters, and the event went on as scheduled.
