The U.S. Supreme Court decided Wednesday not to hear Rockland County's appeal to stop the Federal Aviation Administration?s airspace redesign plan that will redirect planes over the county.

Under the plan, some 600 planes will be flying over Rockland daily on their way to Newark Liberty International Airport. The FAA has said the redesign plan is necessary to improve safety and ease delays.

However, Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef says the FAA violated federal law by not considering issues like noise pollution and environmental impact.

Despite Wednesday?s setback, Vanderhoef vows to continue his battle against the FAA by working with congressional representatives to stop funding for the project.
