YONKERS - The Yonkers Emergency Services unit investigated several suspicious containers found behind an apartment building on Morris Street Wednesday.

Police say that the barrels contain some type of liquid, which is being tested. Officials say it may take some time to determine what that liquid is.

Residents in the neighborhood say they spotted a pickup truck and two men bringing four barrels behind 55 Morris St. Police were called and people living in the building were evacuated.

By Wednesday evening, police hauled off the last of the evidence and Morris Street between Livingston Street and Hamilton Avenue was reopened.

Police say residents of 55 Morris St. are not allowed back to their homes because their building is unsafe for reasons unrelated to the barrels. When emergency crews arrived, Con Edison found that the gas lines were not properly connected. Residents will not be allowed to return until their landlord fixes it.
