Sweltering heat gives Nyack students a half day
Nyack students were dismissed early Monday due to extreme heat for the first time in the school district's history.
None of the district's buildings have air conditioning. With temperatures feeling at least 100 degrees for the third day in a row, Nyack school officials decided student safety comes first.
The students didn't seem to mind, but some parents who received word to pick their children up early did. "I'm actually not looking forward to dealing with these kids for the rest of the day, but we'll do what we can to keep them cool," said Alison Noselli.
"It's a little frightening that we're breaking records by 20 degrees," said one parent. "Whatever it is, you wonder what's going on with our climate."
The district plans to let students out early again Tuesday, if need be.
