Questions about security on the Tappan Zee Bridge are mounting today after a man was able to park his van and dangle from the bridge in protest.

Michael Davitt, 54, protested the 2008 loss of his job as a counselor at the Rockland County Department of Mental Health by dangling from a rope on the bridge yesterday. Davitt is facing five charges including obstructing governmental administration and reckless endangerment.

Assemblyman and criminal justice professor Robert Castelli (R-N.Y.) says access to the bridge is always a concern, but adds that there is only so much law enforcement can do. He says the only way to prevent similar incidents would be to catch the person before entering the bridge.

Castelli says the best way to prevent any type of security breach is to report suspicious behavior.

Davitt was released on $500 bail and is due back in court on Nov. 17.
