Teacher pleads guilty to statutory rape of student
A former teacher at a New Windsor school for kids with special needs pleaded guilty Friday to having sex with one of her students.
Rebecca Becker and Maria Zurita, both 28, were charged with raping two 16-year-old boys from the McQuade Children?s Services School. Both women worked at the facility. Investigators say they found out about the affairs when the two teens went missing from the residential school.
Police say Becker and Zurita, a teacher?s aide, brought the two boys to Zurita?s house on Memorial Day weekend and had sex with them. One boy was from Westchester. Both women were fired from their positions at the school after the alleged incident was discovered.
Becker pleaded guilty to statutory rape and will be sentenced on November 30. Zurita has not submitted a plea. Her attorney says she is innocent and will go to trial to prove it.
