Teen arrested in radio reporter's murder
Police arrested a teenager from Queens Wednesday in connection with the brutal slaying of veteran radio news reporter George Weber.
Authorities say John Katheis, 16, was taken into custody at a bus station in Middletown. He is expected to be charged as an adult.
Police say the teenager made statements implicating himself in Weber?s murder. The victim apparently allowed the suspect into his Carroll Gardens home after they agreed to meet for sado-masochistic sex through an online ad.
Weber's body was found Sunday. His ankles were bound, and he was stabbed about 50 times. Other wounds indicate the radio host tried to fight off his attacker.
Authorities say Katheis was treated for cuts on the night of Weber?s murder. A transit worker saw him bleeding on a train, and police took him to the hospital. The teen reportedly told police the night was fueled by alcohol and drugs.
Weber worked at WABC in New York for 12 years as the on-air reporter for popular shows like "Curtis and Kuby." He also had worked at stations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver and Pennsylvania.
