Teen driver in fatal Deerpark crash remains critical
The Orange County teen who survived a head-on crash that killed his classmate remains in intensive care this evening, officials say. Police say Christian Thomas, 16, of Westtown, was heading west on Greenville Turnpike Tuesday night when he attempted to pass a vehicle. That's when Thomas crashed head-on into an oncoming Chevrolet SUV, investigators say. Thomas' passenger, 17-year-old Daniel Garcia, of Port Jervis, died at the scene. Police say they're investigating whether the teens were drag racing at the time of the crash. They say driver's inexperience and excessive speed were factors in the accident. The teens were classmates at Minisink High School, where students today mourned Garcia. A growing memorial has been set up in Deerpark, and many fellow classmates have come out to pay their respects. A wake for Garcia is scheduled for tomorrow in Port Jervis, followed by funeral services on Saturday.1 teen dead, another critical after Deerpark crash
