It was an emotional return for Sky Mendoza on Thursday as loved ones cheered and welcomed the teen home in Middletown for the first time since 2018.
Mendoza, 15, was left paralyzed from the neck down after a car crash in the Bronx that killed her pregnant stepmother, Jennifer Parisella.
"She lost her stepmom, and we're still feeling it," said Sky’s grandmother Pauline Stewart. "She always smiles, is always happy. Never depressed, so that keeps us going."
The support for Mendoza and her family has continued now that she's back. Middletown is donating land for her family to someday build a forever home for the teen.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Mendoza family build a wheelchair-accessible home.
