YONKERS - A temporary fix is now in place to cover a gaping hole on a busy Yonkers bridge.

The 24-foot hole was left behind after an SUV rammed into a wall on the Odell Avenue Bridge, sending thousands of pounds of rock onto the Saw Mill Parkway.

The temporary repair is a 60-foot concrete barrier brought in from Maybrook yesterday afternoon. The installation closed the Saw Mill Parkway northbound from Executive Boulevard to Tuckahoe Road.

A light has been set up to shine on the barrier so drivers can see it at night.

The Department of Transportation has contacted an emergency contractor to assess the damage and come up with a long-term solution. A spokesperson said that the project for a permanent fix will have to wait until the weather warms up.

It's unclear how much the project will cost or how long construction will take.
