A new HBO documentary details Ossining inmates on the road to education.

OSSINING - A new documentary on the lives of students at a unique college program at a maximum security prison debuted on HBO last night.

"The University of Sing Sing" chronicles Hudson Link, a non-profit organization giving prisoners at Sing Sing Correctional Faculty in Ossining a chance to earn a college diploma.

A special screening was held at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, where some of the scenes were shot.

Those involved in the film say programs like this are monumental in local communities. "95 percent of these men and women return to these communities, so if we just throw them in prison and throw away the key it doesn't really work. They're going come back at some point. I'd rather them come back educated and ready to help in the community," says Hudson Link Executive Director Sean Pica.
