Thruway stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey
The high price of gas isn't likely to stop holiday travelers from using the New York State Thruway this weekend.
Approximately 38 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more this weekend, and more than 4 million drivers are expected to ride on the thruway this Thanksgiving.
Sgt. Brian Hoerman, of the New York State Police Department, says toll areas will be the most congested spots. Hoerman recommends drivers stay off the roads from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., peak traffic hours.
"We've been busy," Hoerman says. "There's been a lot of accidents."
Experts say the congestion should subside after Sunday night. They suggest drivers leave extra time to get anywhere until then.
