Some Unionville residents say they were not alerted about the tornado that touched down in the village Wednesday because of an outdated alert system.
Tornado warnings had been broadcasted two hours before the storm hit, but those who were not watching television or listening to the radio were left in the dark about the danger.
Unionville doesn't have a reverse 911 system, and its only siren is a 45-year-old fire alarm that has only one tone.
Last year, the village applied for a federal grant to build an emergency operations center, but was denied.
