The Town of Cortlandt is considering Verplanck Quarry as a location for future commercial and recreational projects.
One of the proposed ideas is to transform the 99-acre parcel of land into a white sand beach with a boardwalk, marina and waterfront park.
Officials say they are still early in the planning phase and will take residents’ input into consideration as they decide on how to utilize the vacant land.
"We've hired a company to do the infrastructure design. They've created these 9 pads for development, and we are planning on the roads and the water,” said Town of Cortlandt supervisor Dr. Richard Becker.
