Whipping winds and relentless rain packed a punch on the riverfront village of Piermont today.
But residents are no strangers to these changing tides. “In Piermont, flooding is always our biggest concern,” says Piermont Mayor Bruce Tucker.
Superstorm Sandy caused more than $20 million in damage. To make sure that doesn't happen again, the village secured grant funding to elevate flood-prone roads. It also updated building codes, and residents now receive alerts when flooding is forecasted.
Another concern for many residents across Rockland is power outages. Hundreds of homes lost electricity.
Orange & Rockland officials say residents should report an outage at 1-877-434-4100 and to stay away from downed lines.
